Why is Irish Coffee Day celebrated?
This day was created to commemorate, and make known around the world, one of the most typical and iconic drinks of Ireland, after Guinness Beer.
A drink that has been a great protagonist and a must in Irish bars for more than 80 years. Therefore, this important coffee could not go without its own date on the calendar. To, in this way, become better known and commemorate an iconic drink of Ireland.
So, go ahead and celebrate Irish Coffee Day and prepare this drink yourself at home. And, of course, don’t forget to share it with everyone using social networks by sharing your creations with the hashtag #NationalIrishCoffeeDay.
How to prepare
As simple as combining whiskey, coffee, sugar and semi whipped cream in a glass. It’s that easy! Mix the freshly brewed coffee with the whiskey and sugar until it has dissolved.
When we have it well mixed, we are going to put this combination in a glass, preferably thin and something (as they are the most typical in Ireland to serve this coffee). Previously we can have heated the glass with water, so that the coffee will keep warm longer, although this is optional.
Now we only have to whip the cream. Remember to stop before it is completely whipped, because we need a creamy and smooth texture, it is semi whipped cream. So it should not peak. When we have it ready, incorporate it to the coffee and the whiskey pouring it on the back of a spoon, to avoid that when falling it mixes with the coffee.

Notes
Nutrition
As you can see, preparing this drink has no mystery, coffee, whiskey, sugar and semi whipped cream. Nothing else is needed. Of course, to celebrate Irish coffee day, remember to get a 100% Irish whiskey. And, of course, that it is of quality, because I assure you that it will make the difference.
Some tips
Before preparing this combination, some people temper the glass in very hot water before adding the ingredients. Serve your coffee in a lukewarm glass with water to keep it hotter for longer.
Although we have already mentioned it, use a quality Whisky. And, preferably, that it is Irish. It is one of the basic ingredients, and, being a simple preparation, we will notice it too much if we use a whiskey of poor quality. It can even destroy our drink.
And finally, remember that this coffee does not contain cream. Instead, it has semi whipped cream. So if you are going to prepare it at home, you don’t have to wait for it to form peaks. That is, do not whip it completely.
Prepare the Perfect Irish Coffee to Celebrate Your Day
This fun and original day deserves to be celebrated in style. Whether you are passionate about Irish coffee, whiskey or coffee, this drink can have a lot of followers! So, if you want to celebrate Irish coffee day in the best possible way, let’s take a look at some more tips to prepare this cocktail to perfection.
Which coffee to use for Irish coffee?
You can use any type of coffee. Here, the most important thing is that the coffee be strong. You can use filter coffee, espresso coffee, etc. But it must be a powerful and full-bodied coffee. If you are going to make it in an Italian coffee maker, add more coffee than you are used to, so that it comes out stronger.
Add the cream carefully
As the cream is not completely whipped, if we pour it directly over the coffee and the whisky it is possible that, if we do it carelessly, it will end up mixing everything. And this is the last thing we want, since one of the characteristics of this coffee are those two distinct layers.
Therefore, when we have the cream ready, we are going to incorporate it with the help of a spoon. We will put the spoon on our coffee and whiskey, upside down, so that we will add the cream on the back of it. Thus, it will fall from a lower height and we will add it more delicately; and we will avoid mixing it with the coffee and the whiskey.
Serve immediately, while the coffee is still hot.
Do you know how to drink an authentic Irish Coffee?
Don’t mix cream with coffee and whiskey! Irish Coffee puritans will tell you that a good Irish coffee should be drunk in small sips. Rest the cup on your lips and lift it gently so that the two ingredients do not mix. In this way, in each sip, we will savor the cream and enjoy its texture to the maximum, while the coffee and the whiskey invade our palate.
Although, as with every recipe, there are variations. Well, did you know that in Spain it is common not to mix whisky with coffee? Here, three distinct layers are created. In fact, in almost all the recipes you look for in Spanish to prepare an Irish Coffee you will see that they do not mix coffee and whiskey. In the glass, the whiskey is served first, the coffee on top, being careful not to mix them, and finally the cream.
