Tips for preparing a perfect coffee in an Italian coffee maker
- Choose a good coffee. The most important thing is the quality of the only ingredient that we are going to use, the coffee. The best are natural coffees, and never choose roasted coffees or mixtures of natural and roasted coffees.
And of course, always acquire it in beans and grind it at home just before preparing it. We have really economical coffee grinders and, with this simple gesture, we will considerably increase the quality of our coffee.
- Add the previously heated water. In this way we will achieve that, once in the coffee maker, the water boils before. This will give our coffee a much more intense and richer flavor as it will be in contact with the heat for less time.
Also, if you live in an area where the tap water is not good, it is best to use mineral water. - Put the coffee just right, without squeezing it. Now we are going to fill the filter of the coffee maker with coffee. Without pressing it, we will fill the filter up to the edge. In Italian coffee makers it is not necessary to compact the ground coffee. In fact, doing so could damage our coffee maker.
Once filled, level the remaining coffee with a knife and clean the edges well before placing it in the hot water. - Before closing the coffee maker, check that the rubber is in good condition; that there are no breaks, stains or mildew marks. In this case, it should be replaced urgently.
- Start by heating the coffee pot with the lid open. Put it on the fire, at medium-low temperature with the lid of the coffee pot open. One of the reasons why we will start our coffee with the lid open is so that it does not get so hot. In this way, the coffee will be more balanced, fresh and sweet.
When the coffee begins to rise, we turn off the fire and close the lid. We remove it from the fire and let the coffee continue to come out until we hear the typical sound it makes when the coffee has finished brewing. - Clean the coffee maker very well right after use. Many experts recommend not using any product to clean the Italian coffee makers; as they can pick up flavor and spoil future coffees. To clean it well, simply rinse it with abundant water under the faucet immediately after use. You can help yourself with a scouring pad that does not contain any soap.
Once clean, dry it thoroughly to avoid stains on the aluminum and store it unassembled, so that the air can circulate.
