Ingredients

  • 1 hamburger bun
  • 7 Oz Minced meat It will depend on how many you want to make and the size.
  • 1 tbsp Butter
  • American cheese or cheese slices
  • Pickles (thinly sliced)
  • 1 Onion

Instructions

  • We will start our Minneapolis Burger recipe by melting the butter in the microwave, and with a brush, we will paint the inside sides of the hamburger bun.
1 tbsp Butter, 1 hamburger bun
  • Continue by cutting the onion into julienne strips and, in a frying pan over medium low heat, cook until golden brown. When it is done, set aside.
    1 Onion
  • Let's go now with the meat of our hamburger. First season the minced meat to taste (ground pepper, garlic powder, oregano, parsley… to taste) and divide it into two small balls. Now we will crush the balls that we had made with the meat to form two hamburger meats, not very fat. Once we have shaped the hamburger meat, we put on top of one of them a small square of American cheese (or a couple of folded slices) and we put the other hamburger meat on top, "closing" both meats leaving the cheese inside. We press the edges well to seal our hamburger and that the cheese does not come out when cooking.
7 Oz Minced meat, American cheese or cheese slices
  • We will continue with the bread, to which we had spread butter on its inner sides, and we will pass it through the frying pan, so that it browns a little. Set aside
  • In the same frying pan we are going to make the hamburger (the meat with the cheese). Over medium heat, so that it is done on the inside, let it cook, when it is done on one side we turn it over carefully so as not to break it, and cook. Once done, set aside.
  • And we finish our Minneapolis Burger by assembling it. First, on the bottom of the hamburger bun, which we had previously toasted lightly, we will place some pickle slices, add some onion, crown with the meat and put the hamburger bun lid, also lightly toasted.
    And that's it!
1 hamburger bun, 7 Oz Minced meat, Pickles, 1 Onion

Notes

If you like, you can add a little ketchup or any other sauce to give it an even richer touch.
You can innovate with the cheese you use as filling, or with the rest of the toppings and make a complete cheeseburger, adding grilled onion, lettuce, tomato… is there anything that can’t be good for it?
And of course, accompany it with some delicious fries to have a dinner of 10! (even if the next day you have to spend an extra hour at the gym).

History of this Burger

Better known as Jucy Lucy is a hamburger that, instead of having a slice of cheese, has it inside the meat!
It was invented in Minneapolis (Minnesota), around the 50s.

As for its creator, it is quite clear. There is a dispute between two bars in the area to get the authority over this recipe.
These bars are Matt’s Bar and the 5-8 Club, a short distance from the first one. The difference is that at the 5-8 Club they call it “Juicy Lucy”.
Each bar has its own slogan about the burger. The first, Matt’s Bar states, “If it’s spelled correctly, you’re in the wrong place.” Referring to its competitor’s Juicy Lucy, as Matt’s Bar claims this burger should carry the local accent.
In contrast, at the 5-8 Club, they have as their slogan: “If it’s spelled right, then it’s done right.”

As you see on both pages of the various bars, both claim to be “the home of the Minneapolis Burger.”

And despite this long-standing feud, these two bars have something in common. The warning they give their customers when they order a Minneapolis Burger:

"Wait a few minutes, or you'll burn yourself."

Because of the heat that the cheese keeps when it is melted inside the meat. Take note if you make it at home!
