Meatball Sub, the super American meatball sub sandwich

Today we bring you a recipe for an informal dinner or a very hearty meal. The Meatball Sub is a powerful sandwich made with meatballs and tomato. No doubt it will leave you speechless as soon as you try it. In Puerto Rico, this snack is known as “albondigazo” in Puerto Rico. This snack of giant meatballs was born in the United States, around the 20th century. Although its exact origin and who invented it is not clear, it is related to Italian immigrants in the United States, who made these spectacular meatballs to accompany spaghetti.

Let’s take a look at the recipe for Meatball Sub

Meatballs are one of my favorite dishes, where you can’t stop dipping bread. If we also put these meatballs directly in the middle of the bread, and accompany them with tomato and lots of cheese, we will have a spectacular meal. Do you dare to try this Meatball Sub?

  • 1/2 Cup Bread crumbs
  • 1/2 Cup Shredded cheese
  • Tomato sauce
  • Parsley
  • Pepper
  • Salt

Instructions

  • In a deep dish we are going to put the meat. Mix with the parsley, pepper, salt (to taste), cheese, egg, bread crumbs and garlic (finely chopped). Mix well with your hands until you get a homogeneous mass with the meat and seasonings.
Once well mixed, we make the meatballs. We have to make the meatballs very big.
30 Oz Minced meat, 1 Egg, 1/2 Cup Bread crumbs, 1/2 Cup Shredded cheese, Parsley, Pepper, Salt, 1 Garlic clove
  • Once ready, fry the meatballs in a frying pan with a little oil or butter. When they are ready (they have taken a dark color) add the tomato sauce and let it cook together for a few minutes.

  • Cut the loaves of bread in two, and open them only on one side, so that the other side is united. Spread the bread with the tomato sauce where we have cooked the meatballs. Put the meatballs that fit in each sandwich and serve hot.

Don’t you think it’s an amazing Sub? Although this Meatball Sandwich is very filling, it’s delicious, and a day is a day. Who isn’t crazy about dipping bread in meatballs? Well, that’s what this sandwich does. You can toast the bread lightly before putting the meatballs in. This way it will be much tastier.

Some people add more cheese on top once the sandwich is assembled. Without a doubt, it is a great idea. If you also love cheese, add a little more once you put the meatballs, taking advantage of the fact that they are still warm so that it melts.
