We know more and more new recipes every day. Thanks to the internet, traditional dishes from the other side of the world can become popular in our country in a matter of minutes. And without a doubt, this is something to celebrate for all food lovers. And that is exactly what has happened with the Hawaiian Poke Bowl, which celebrates its International Day every September 28th. Join us to celebrate it.
But first, do you know what Poke is? In Hawaiian means “cut, chop”, is a kind of salad based on raw fish that is accompanied with different fresh ingredients.
It is a dish originally from Hawaii, where it was invented by fishermen as a quick and simple recipe to consume protein while working, and without wasting too much time.
Later, it was the Japanese, Korean and Filipino immigrants who, thanks to their influence on the island, contributed their ingredients and traditions to the Poke Bowl. Thus creating the famous Hawaiian Poke Bowl.
Over time and thanks to social networks, this dish has become enormously popular. And yes, thanks to social networks because this dish owes much of its fame to the fact that it has been one of the most photographed recipes for social networks. Which has contributed greatly to the fame it has now.
And, of course, the Hawaiian Poke also has its own day on the calendar. And it is celebrated every September 28th. Although we have done a lot of research on the origin of this day, we have not found its authors, although it must be a very recent celebration considering that this dish became popular in North America in 2014.
But we do not rule out that it is a great marketing work devised by one of the many Poke restaurants that, between 2014 and 2016 opened their doors to ride the wave of the Hawaiian bowl boom. Because without a doubt, it’s a perfect day to go for an authentic Poke Bowl.
They were born as a fast food for Hawaiian fishermen to eat without wasting much time.
Eventually, the dish became what it is today thanks to the influence of various cultures.
The Poke Bowl arrived in Spain in 2017.

Although it is originally a dish based on raw fish, nowadays, thanks to its popularization, we can find Pokes of all kinds, even omitting fish.
