Infusions and teas are beverages with a multitude of properties. Depending on the type of tea, or the plants and flowers with which the infusion is made, we will find in these drinks different properties. We find infusions for practically everything. For you have plants that help calm the nerves, that help us sleep or, like coffee, to wake us up in the morning. Today we want to talk about Rooibos tea and all the benefits and properties it has.

Rooibos Tea, a very healthy drink

Before starting with Rooibos, we should clarify that, although it is known as “Rooibos tea”, it is actually an infusion.
We call infusions to the liquid obtained by infusing in boiling water, or very hot, any plant component. Whether leaves, flowers, bark of certain plants ….
On the contrary, tea is an infusion of the leaves and buds of a specific plant, called “Camelli sinensis”, better known as tea plant.

That is why it is very common to confuse the infusion of Rooibos with red tea, which in reality, have nothing to do, as they are different plants.

Rooibos, where does it come from?

It is a plant of South African origin, which means “red bush”, which has recently achieved much fame. It has a multitude of medicinal properties and benefits for our body.
The rooibos plant was classified relatively recently, in 1772.

In its country of origin, it is the perfect substitute for coffee. And it is usually taken with milk or sugar.

  • 400 ml Water
  • 5 g Rooibos

Instructions
 

  • Try to use good quality Rooibos. It is essential to get a perfect infusion.
    We start by heating the water. While it is heating, place the rooibos in the infuser (those little balls with holes where you place the herbs in the infusion so that they release all their flavor and properties).
  • When the water begins to boil, pour it into the kettle and cover it. Let it steep for about 8 minutes.
    After that time, remove the infuser. You can now enjoy your Rooibos infusion. You can drink it like this, or add a little sugar or honey.

Benefits and Properties of Rooibos infusion

  • It does not contain any caffeine. Therefore, it is a perfect substitute for coffee at breakfast, as it provides energy. Eliminating caffeine from the diet improves stress levels, mood and heart health.
  • Therefore, it is also recommended for people who suffer from insomnia.
  • It improves the immune system. It is a very good antiviral, which also has anti-inflammatory properties. Thanks to the polyphenols it contains, also known to be a powerful antioxidant.
  • It helps to relieve stomach cramps and certain stomach problems. Thanks to its antihistamine and antispasmodic properties. Which also relieve asthma and other related conditions.
  • Reduces blood pressure. Rooibos acts as a bronchodilator. Thus reducing blood pressure.
  • Improves bone and heart health. Rich in calcium, magnesium, fluoride and other minerals that help us maintain good bone health. Reducing the possibility of suffering from arthritis or osteoporosis.
  • Regarding heart health, rooibos has quercetin, another powerful antioxidant and inflammatory that is related to the prevention of various heart conditions.
