It is true that tuna is a very healthy food, and that it has many benefits and properties, but did you know that an excessive consumption of tuna can have contraindications? This is because they are large specimens, and with a long life. They live for many years. In addition, added to the fact that it is a great predator, we can find high amounts of mercury, among others.

The contraindications of a high consumption of tuna, mercury

As we said, tuna is very beneficial, but always in the right measure. In fact, it is recommended to eat oily fish up to twice a week. But we should vary the fish we eat.

In the case of tuna, in large specimens we can find mercury. A mineral that, in high quantities, is very toxic and also interferes with neurological development. That is why it is recommended to restrict the consumption of this fish to pregnant women and children.

In addition to mercury, tuna also contains high amounts of histamine, a derivative of fish proteins. In large quantities, this can cause allergic reactions.
But regardless of the amount, it can cause intoxication in hypersensitive people.

Other contraindications for specific cases

In addition to the above contraindications of tuna, which are applicable to all people, there are others that we have to take into account.
