Lasagna is a type of pasta typical of Italian ñwmcocins. This preparation is made with several overlapping sheets between which the filling is added, which can be of many types, although the most popular is undoubtedly meat.
Once assembled, it is covered with béchamel sauce and grated cheese and gratinized in the oven. Although we can also find other cold versions, more summery.
As we were saying, it is a very versatile dish, being able to find lasagna of different ingredients: meat, fish, vegetables… Even in many elaborations the pasta sheets are replaced by vegetable sheets, such as zucchini or eggplant, giving rise to the popular moussaka.
Every July 29th is celebrated the World Day of this beloved dish to pay tribute to it. And, although we have investigated very thoroughly, we have not been able to find the creator of this day.
What is clear is that it is a perfect date that Italian restaurants around the world take advantage of to promote one of its most representative dishes. We can’t think of a better date to eat a good lasagna in an Italian restaurant.

We will start with Greece, where Musaka is very popular. In this recipe, the pasta sheets are replaced by eggplant slices. And in the same way as lasagna, it is filled with lentils, although it can be made with many other ingredients.
In Venezuela there are two original versions of lasagna. In both, the pasta is replaced by fried plantain slices:
And finally, we finish with Pastel Azteca, the Mexican version of lasagna. This preparation replaces the pasta sheets with corn tortillas, and also has a meat filling.
As you can see, there are many options to celebrate Lasagna Day as it deserves. With a classic Italian Lasagna or with any of these other options. The important thing is to celebrate its day while we give ourselves a tribute.
This dish has centuries of history, and the first written recipe for Lasagna dates back to 1316, by Mario Borgogno.
Later, in 1880, it arrived in the United States by the hand of Italian immigrants, having a spectacular reception. And there it became a very popular dish.
But not as popular as it is in Great Britain, since it is one of the countries where lasagna is consumed per person.
Did you know that it is Garfield’s favorite dish? There is not a comic book where this friendly and big orange cat does not appear celebrating a gigantic dish of lasagna. And a good plate of lasagna will brighten anyone’s Monday.
And we finish with the world’s largest lasagna. It was cooked in 2012, by Magillo Restaurant in collaboration with Macro supermarkets. This lasagna weighed no more and no less than 4,865 kg, although I’m sure Garfield wouldn’t have been able to resist it either.
