We continue celebrating the best and most delicious events of our calendar to go, this time, with one of the sweetest. Well, every February 28th is celebrated the Chocolate Souffle Day. A spongy dessert, with a very light and pleasant texture and, above all, a spectacular taste. Will you join us to celebrate it?
For those of you who are not familiar with soufflés, they are elaborations whose basic ingredient is egg whites stiffened to the point of snow. This is the basis of the airy, fluffy and light texture of the soufflé. They also include other ingredients, depending on whether they are sweet or savory preparations. All cooked in the oven.
They have their origin in France. In fact, its name comes from the French verb souffler, which means to blow, to inflate. Since these elaborations seem to be filled with air, an inflated snack with a spectacular and spongy texture.
It is believed that its origin was between the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries, when it began to appear on the menus of the best restaurants of the time.
Although we have researched this day very thoroughly, we have not been able to find its creator. So it is unknown who was the author of this sweet date.
What we do know is that Chocolate Souffle Day originated in the United States, where the great majority of gastronomic anniversaries are born. And, being such an appreciated and popular sweet all over the world, this preparation has quickly spread to other places.
Celebrate Chocolate Soufflé Day with this great recipe
Soufflés are made in individual, tall, oven-safe containers, because when the soufflé is baked, it must double in volume. The way of baking these elaborations is in the oven. Traditionally, these recent ones are known as Ramekines.
If you do not have individual containers for the oven, you can get them in any shopping mall or supermarket. You can also find them in any homeware store.
One of the key points of this preparation is to beat the egg whites until stiff. This is essential for the soufflé to acquire its characteristic texture.
Even so, if the first few times you see that it does not rise, or the result is not as expected, do not worry. It is a complex preparation that requires some practice. The oven also has a great influence. So if the first few times it doesn’t turn out as expected, don’t worry, it’s completely normal.
As we have mentioned, this preparation can be somewhat complex, especially if it is the first time you dare to make a soufflé. However, the result is so wonderful that it is worth it. Besides, we have to celebrate Soufflé Day as it deserves!
Did you know that this is not the only day to celebrate the Soufflé? Cheese Soufflé also has its own day on the calendar, and it is celebrated every May 18th.
